SID WORTH – OBITUARY

Sid was born in Walthamstow on the 13th May 1951 the first child of two children for Thomas and Hannah Worth.

With a working mother and father, Sid spent a lot of time with his extended family, aunt Glad and uncle Fred also Glad’s sister Joan and her partner Tony along with Hannah’s sister Alice and Art and their family.

Sid was known affectionately to the family as Boy.

Sid was always a happy loving child who adored his parents and his aunts and uncles and was always close to his sister Pat, sibling rivalry aside.

Sadly Sid and Pat’s father died in 1975. As a close family they never really got over the loss of their father but found strength in support of each other and together as a family they became closer than ever.

Sid was a popular boy who attended Markhouse Road School and then onto McEntree High School where music and drawing were his favorite subjects. Morris Dancing caught his attention for a short while at the age of 16. His best friend Keith Sullivan was never far from his side.

Sid became interested in playing the guitar and at the age of 13 his mum and dad brought him his first. Sid taught himself to play. As a self-taught musician he had a natural talent for music and from the moment he was given that first guitar he became dedicated to music and the music industry.

Sid started the Chez Club in Leytonstone for rock enthusiasts. Sid started his own business with ‘Cathode Eylsium Lights’ and then started his first band ‘Elysium’ in 1972.

Soon Sid had developed talents as a Sound Engineer and went on to work for famous musician’s such as Duane Eddy, George McCrae who he accompanied on a world tour and then for Steve Marriott and the Small Faces and finally joined Joe Brown and the Bruvvers in the late 1970’s.

Along the way Sid met Ann at the Nitespot in Bedford when touring with Joe Brown, and after a couple of years they married in 1980. Keith, ever close, was Sid’s best man at the wedding.

As well as the Nitespot, Sid worked for Mr. Music and then was head hunted by HMV who opened their first musical instrument store in Bedford.

In 1984 Sid and Ann were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Alexandra, and in 1985 another beautiful baby girl was born- a treasure in Harriet.

After a couple of years Sid decided that he would open a shop himself with his long time friend and new business partner Bruce. They had a happy union at Union Street Music for many years, but after a small and silly fall out, Sid and Bruce went their separate ways and Sid found a new business partner and good friend in Gary Clarke.

Their father adored Alexandra and Harriet, and in turn they adored him. He was never out of their thoughts. Even though Harriet did not see or speak to her father she thought of him every day.

Alexandra was a constant support to her dad and spent a year living with her father whilst she attended college before returning to Oundle to a new job. Alex and her dad were constantly in touch.

Sid was kind and thoughtful boy and man. He was a good son to his mother and a good friend to those around him. If his mum, sister or close family ever needed anything Sid would be there for them. He was loved by many and thought well of by all those who knew or came in contact with him.
